UNIT 1 KA6 Flashcards
(12 cards)
What is the respiration equation
Glucose + o2 = energy + CO2 + water
What is ATP
Is high energy molecules called Adenosine Tri-Posphate
What happens when a (pi) molecule is removed form ATP
It becomes ADP
Breaking down ATP to ADP what happens
PI releases energy
What happens when Making ATP from ADP
Required energy ( PI)
What are the 2 forms of repetition
Aerobic
Anaerobic
What is Aerobic
It requires energy and takes place in the mitochondria and it produces many ATPS
What is anaerobic
It does not require oxygen and takes place in the cytoplasm and only produces 2 ATPS
What is glycolysis (stage 1 of both respetatios)
Breaks glucose down into pyruvate and takes place in the cytoplasm . This also produces 2 ATP (anaerobic)
Describe stage 2 of aerobic respiration
Takes place in the mitochondria. Pyruvate is converted into CO2 and water and also produces 36 ATP.
Only can work if O2 is available
= 38 molecules in both molecules
Stage 2 of fermentation in animal cells
If o2 is not available fermentation takes place. In stage 1 glucose turned to pyruvate witch is then converted to lactic acid. 2ATPS
What happens in fermentation in plant cells
The pyruvate in stage 1 is turned into ethanol and CO2
