UNIT 1KA2 Flashcards
(12 cards)
Why is cell membrane selectively permeable
It is selectively permeable, only be aside some molecules can pass through it
What is cell membrane made out of
Proteins and phospholipid(small tadpoles)
What may need to be entered the cell
Glucose, oxygen, amino acids (what we need)
What exits a cell membrane
CO2 and urea (waste) what we don’t need
Diffusion
Movement is molecules from high to low concentration = no energy needed
Whats osmosis
Movement of water molecules from high water concentration to low water concentration and no energy needed
active transport
Low to high concentration and required energy
Identifying osmosis if a questions is asked e.g what direction is osmosis will move from 5% salt to 10% salt what do u do
It asks for water concentration their for change 5% salt to 95% water and 10% salt to 90% water this equals 95% on the left and 90% on the right theirfor lived right
What would happen to cells in higher water concentration
Water will enter cell and will swell up n burst
What would happen to cells in low water concentration
Water will exit the cell and will shrink
What would happen to a plant cell in higher water concentration
Water will move into the cell and the vacuole will swell and the cell becomes turgid
What would happen to plant cells in higher water concentration
It will get plasmolysed
