Choice
-Gives individuals control over their lives
- Increase self-esteem
- Promotes independence
Confidentiality
- Information should only be shared on a need to know basis
- Information should not be shared with anyone else, including friends and family without the individual’s permission
- Exceptions:
— At risk of harming themselves
— At risk of harming others
— At risk of being hurt by others
— If there is a risk of a serious offence being carried out
Consultation
- Service users should be asked for their opinions and views about the type of care they would like.
- Views and opinions of service users should be taken account of whenever possible.
Protection from harm and abuse
- Safeguarding procedures must be followed.
- Health and safety legislation should be adhered to.
- Fire evacuation procedures should be in place.
- Risk assessments should be carried out for activities, trips and use of equipment.
Equal and fair treatment
- Individuals should be treated in accordance with the law and their needs.
- Everyone should have the sere opportunities to access education, health and social care.
- Providing the same treatment to everyone does not mean equality.
Right to life
- An individual’s life is protected by law.
- Everyone’s life should be valued and respected.
— this means that no he is allowed to harm you and equally you are not allowed to harm anyone else.

SEAP
• A charity that provides free, independent and confidentiality advocacy services.
• resolves issue about health and wellbeing or health and social services.
• Aims to ensure that individuals are in central of decisions that are made about them.
Mencap
• A charity that works with people with learning disabilities, and supports people to live life as they choose.
British Institute of Learning Disabilities
• A body that campaigns for people with learning disabilities to be valued equally, participate sully in their communities and be treated with dignity and respect.
Mind
•A charity that provides advice and support to empower those experiencing a mental health problem. It campaigns to improve services, raise awareness und promote understanding.
Age UK
•Raises awareness of the difficult situations faced by many older people, and keep relevant issues in the public eye and relevant in parliament.
• Campaigns vary from calling for the reform of the care system to trying t’ improve the bus route in a local community.
Headway
•An association that promotes understanding about brain injuries and provides info, support and services to survivors, their family’s and carers.
Application of the concepts: all services users of health, social care and childcare environments must receive

• Freedom from discrimination.
- Their diversity is valued and their rights supported.
Values of care guidelines:
•Inform und improve practice of effective care.
•Guide staff about legal requirements.
•Applying these values of care helps to maintain or improve quality of life for all in society no matter their age, gender or disability.

Promoting equality and diversity
- Use of non discriminatory language and not pratronising.
- Discrimination should be challenged.
- Allowing care users a choice.
- Care should meet an individuals specific needs.
- Needs of individuals should be conceding when taking service users out on a trip e.g. Wheelchair access.
Promoting individuals rights and beliefs
- Individuals religious beliefs should be respected and supported by providing a prayer room or transport to a church. (a reflection room)
- Service users should be given choices e.g. A pregnant women who wishes to give birth at home as opposed to the hospital.
- Providing a menu for all types for all types of dietary requirements.
Maintaining confidentiality
- Individuals personal details should nabbe discuses in a public area and written details about service users should not be left lying around.
- Personal details should be filed away in a locked cabinet or in password-protected electronic files.
- Information should only be shared on need to know basis.
