American diplomats were humiliated by members of the French foreign ministry in an event known as the “XYZ” Affair. The members of the French foreign ministry said that to speak with there boss they needed to pay $250,000 to speak to there boss.

How did President Washington’s administration respond to the War between Britain and France?
Hamilton wanted to join Britains side and Jefferson wanted to join France but George Washington decided to take the middle road and be neutral so we could continue trading with both nations.
