Unit 3: Brushless DC-Machines and Stepper Motors Flashcards
(7 cards)
1
Q
Brushless Theory of Operation
A
Simple force interaction between PM poles and Electromagnet poles
2
Q
Brushless Attractions
A
If coil is activated, opposite coil attracts PM poles e.g if A active, A’ attracts.
3
Q
What is a stepper motor?
A
Pulse driven motor that changes angular position in steps in response to digitally controlled pulses.
4
Q
3 Classes of Stepper Motors
A
- Permanent Magnet (PM)
- Variable Reluctance (single or multi stack)
- Hybrid
5
Q
Pullover vs Holding Torque
A
Pullover = Driving force of the motor to move a step
Holding = Stops motor w/o excitation (no PM = no HT)
6
Q
Pull-In vs Pull-Out Rate
A
Pull-In = Max rate of pulse ps w/o losing steps
Pull-Out = Max rate of pulse ps w/o losing stability
7
Q
Slew Range/Mode
A
Region where motor operating at constant velocity.
