What is the department of culture, media and sport (DCMS)?
- funds sports to improve opportunity
- participation and economic growth in sport
- it has the aim of enhancing British culture
What is the department of health?
- The department of health is interested and involved in the health benefits of exercise.
- They do this to help people live a better quality of life.
What is the department for education?
- Primarily the department for education are responsible for the development of sport within schools and all education settings.
What does the department of culture, media and sport do (DCMS)?

What are National Governing Bodies?
- They are organisations, they have the soul responsibility for one sport only.
- Every sport has a different NGB in each country
- NGB’s are responsible for grass root level sports as well as elite level sports.
- Examples = Swim England for swimming, the FA for football, and UK Athletics for athletics.
What are the roles and responsibilities of National Governing Bodies (NGB’s)? (TREAT FOP)
- T = training of officials and coaches
- R = Setting rules and regulations
- E = Providing education for elite athletes
- A = Raising awareness of sport
- T = Developing talent and helping to support national elite teams
- F = Distributing funding and administration
- O = Organising competitions, tournaments and events
- P = increasing participation and sports development
What are three European governing bodies?

What does the European Union aim to do?
- they aim to develop initiatives

What are the roles and responsibilities of International Governing Bodies?
- Encourages world-wide participation
