What is Chattel Slavery?
Most commonly known form of slavery, allowed people to be legal property - to be bought, sold and owned.
What was the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade?
An oceanic trade in African men, women, and children which lasted from the mid-sixteenth century until the 1860s.
Define the Middle Passage.
The route of sea going journeys of Africans taken from their Native land, to the shores of the Caribbean and America, where they were invariably destined to an existence of institutional slavery.
What were the impacts of the Triangle Trade?
Demand for colonial resources rose, resulting in:
* More land required for collection of natural resources
* Continuing theft of land from Native Americans.
What is Mercantilism?
The economic theory that trade generates wealth and is stimulated by the accumulation of profitable balances, which a government should encourage by means of protectionism.
What are Joint Stock Companies?
A company whose stock is owned jointly by the shareholders.
Give an example of a Joint Stock Company.
British East India Company, Dutch East India Company.
What is the Triangle Trade?
A model for economic exchange among three markets, historically among Europe, West Africa, and the New World, running on the backs of millions of enslaved people.
Who led Ana Nzinga’s Revolt?
Ana Nzinga fought against the Portuguese and their expanding slave trade.
What were the Cossacks Revolt?
Peasants in the Russian empire revolted over the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, ultimately failing.
