What was the allies (mainly Canadas) significant role in Europe?

A

Canada was the main supply for Britain, therefore Britain needed Canadas support. They had a large role in supporting the War effort.

Who was C.D. Howe?

A

in 1940, appointed minister of munitions and supply. He was in charge of industrial change, this changed the economy from agriculturally focused to industrial focused as war material were mass produced. He was on the Western Prince when it torpedoed and sunk, he was forced into a lifeboat for 8 hours than he was rescued.

What was propaganda like in ww2 and what was the BPI?

A

Canada promoted their own interests and interests of allies. The government had created the Bureau of Public Information in 1939 this created and distributed propaganda marterials.

A

1) plant your own garden and eat your grown food, they will provide you with free vegetable seeds.

2) purchase victory bonds to finance the war if they were not serving

A

Created in 1939 by Mackenzie King, it gave the government power to prepare for the war economy. They made sure it was controlled and regulated.

A

created in 1940’s, allowed conscription for home defense and demanded enlistment of men.

How did Japanese Internment begin in Canada?

A

provincials government passed laws that prevented Japanese from voting, working mines and stopped them from working provincially funded projects. In 1902 they couldn’t vote and there was a limit to immigration. In 1907 there was a riot in Vancouver that caused many assaults.

A

limited Japanese immigrants to 400 a year but in 1928 this was reduced to 150 a year.

A

Pearl Harbor was a US Naval base where Canadians were stationed to raid. Japan attacked on Deember 7, 1941.

A

On December 8, BC government put steps in place for a blackout in BC. However this led to more hostility as Japanese Canadians thought to be snipes. Which ultimately led to trust issues.
