unit 5 equilibrium kidneys Flashcards
(5 cards)
what is the role of the kidneys?
-regulate water, pH, + removing waste
Step 1
Filtration:
what happends?
where?
what goes in and what doesn’t?
What: Blood enters the glomerulus through the afferent artery
where: This is inside the bowmans capsulal
Goes in:
water, ions, small nirtients, and waste move into the Nephron
Stays out:
blood cells, plates, + plasma proteins are too big to enter
Step 2
Reabsorption pt 1:
Proximal conveluted tubual:
descending and assending loop of henlay;
Proximal conveluted tubeual:
-Fluid from bowmans capsual enetrs proximal conveluted tubeual
Desending loop of henlay:
water, ions, small nirtients, and waste move down the Desending loop of henla
Assending loop of henlay:
-active transport (ion pumps) reabsorb Na+,Cl+, and K+ into surrounding fluid
Step 2
Reabsorption pt 2:
distal conveluated tubeual:
collecting duct:
Distal conveluated tubual:
more salts absorbed
——————————————————-
Collecting ducts:
reabsobed more water and some urea to increase concentration gradient
step 3
secretion:
when things go into the nephron
to balance acididty
water soluble drugs
ions
Convelluted tubular and collecting duct
