Unit 5 Equilibrum nervous system Flashcards
(5 cards)
Central vs periphral Nervous system
Central:
-Brain + spine
-makes decisions
Peripheral:
-nerves connecting organs to brain/spine
-gathers and sends sensory info
–>
somatic
+
automatic
–>
Smypathetic
+
parasympathetic
Types of Nerve cells
1. Glial cells:
- Neurons:
- Glial cells:nonconducting cells that ** structural support** nerve cells
- Neurons:basic building blocks of nervous systems
structure of a neuron
Dendrite:
cell body:
axon:
myelin sheath:
nodes of ranvier:
terminal branches:
Dendrite: receive impules
cell body: has nucleus
axon: carries impuls away from cell body
myelin sheath: insulates the axon
nodes of ranvier: gas of axon between myelin sheath for liquid
terminal branches: send impuls out
What is the mylen sheath made of?
Schwann cells
type of glial cells
Types of Neurons
Sensory/afferen:
Internaurons:
Motor/efferon:
Sensory: info –> Central nervous syetem
ganglia = cluster of sensory cells outside spine
input
Internaurons: in brain + spine
connect and relay impulses between sensory neurons and mother neurons
processing
Motor: central nervous system –> effectors (muscles, skin, etc)
