Serial killer
A person who murders three or more people over a period of time with a cooling-off period in between, often driven by psychological gratification.
Necrophilia
A sexual attraction to or sexual acts with corpses.
Lust murder
A homicide where the offender derives sexual satisfaction from killing; may include mutilation, necrophilia, and ritualistic behaviors.
Stalking
Behavior involving the repeated following, watching, or harassing of another person, which may precede sexual assaults or murders.
Agonophilia
Sexual arousal from pretending one’s partner is struggling to be free.
Piquerism
A sexual interest in stabbing, wounding, or cutting another person, often near genitals or breasts.
Flagellation
The act of whipping or beating someone for sexual gratification.
Anthropophagy
The act of eating human flesh; cannibalism.
Necrosadism
Sexual arousal from mutilating a corpse.
Vampirism
A sexual disorder involving drinking the blood of a victim, often associated with necrophilic or sadistic tendencies.
Female cannibalism
Instances where women have engaged in anthropophagy, such as cooking or consuming body parts.
Disorganized/organized killer
Organized killers plan crimes and control crime scenes; disorganized killers act impulsively and leave chaotic scenes.
Hedonistic killers
Killers who murder for pleasure, often divided into lust and thrill subtypes.
Achilles complex
A hypothesized defect leading to sadistic personality traits and a lack of internal restraints against violent behavior.
Date rape
A rape committed by someone the victim is dating or knows socially.
Prison rape
Sexual assault occurring within a prison setting, often involving power and control.
Sexual harassment
Unwelcome sexual advances or conduct, particularly in hierarchical or workplace settings.
Sodomy
Sexual intercourse involving anal or oral copulation.
Rape Myths
False beliefs about rape that blame victims and excuse perpetrators, such as ‘she was asking for it’.
Chain of evidence
A process of documenting the handling of evidence to ensure it is admissible in court.
Consent
Freely given, informed, and enthusiastic agreement to participate in a specific sexual act.
Marital rape
Non-consensual sex between spouses; considered a crime in all 50 U.S. states.
Campus rape
Sexual assault occurring on college campuses, often involving acquaintances or dates.
