Did you know that Spanish is not the only language spoken in México
There are at least 60 indigenous groups in México today, many of whom speak only their indigenous language
There are at least 60 indigenous groups in México today, many of whom speak only their indigenous language. How does the governmnet respond to this
The government of México recognizes this cultural and linguistic diversity in its constitution, and indigenous groups have the rights to preserve their culture and language, elect government representatives, and self-govern, to name just a few. The indigenous languages of México are recognized as national languages, and they have the same status as Spanish.
To date, there are almost 15 million indigenous people in México
and though their population is increasing, it is not growing as fast as the rest of the population of México.
The largest indigenous groups in México are the
Náhuatls, the Mayas, the Zapotecs, and the Mixtecs.
Náhuatls, the Mayas, the Zapotecs, and the Mixtecs. Where do they live
They live in distinct areas of México, and the states with the highest concentration of speakers of indigenous languages are in Oaxaca, Yucatán, Quintana Roo, and Chiapas.
As I mentioned earlier, the indigenous people were in México long before the discovery of the new world. The settlement in Teotihuacán was one of the largest cities in the world prior to Spanish colonization.
. The pyramids at Teotihuacán were architecturally sophisticated, and the archaeological record suggests that Mesoamerican societies were complex and lived together in compounds. The civilization at Teotihuacán greatly influenced other indigenous civilizations in México.
In México, the YMCA has several programs for community development that do just that. One of them is the Programa de Servicio Voluntario en Comunidades Vulnerables, or Program for Volunteer Service in Vulnerable Communities.
This is a great way for people to get involved and help others. This program helps children, young people, and mothers in crisis or with special needs or risks. The program has several activities. Activities include festivals and camps for children with cancer; workshops for indigenous and rural communities; and residential programs for at-risk children and youth with cognitive impairments.
