Cold war in brief
The Cold War (1945-1990) was a period of ideological conflict between the US and the USSR, rooted in the clash between capitalism and communism. After Lenin transformed the USSR into a totalitarian state, relations with the US and Britain remained stable until the end of WWII. However, the USSR aimed to spread communism in Eastern Europe, prompting the US and Britain to counteract with the Iron Curtain and the formation of NATO. In response, the USSR established the Warsaw Pact. The US's Marshall Plan promoted capitalism in Western Europe, intensifying the ideological divide. The colonisation of Eastern Berlin by the Allied powers showed Western Berliners who were under communism, the benefits of capatalism. However USR's influence on asia was more than USA This led to proxy wars like the Korean and Vietnam Wars. The development of the Atomic bomb in the USSR further elaborated the tensions but Lenin ensured no hot war would break out. Tnesions escalated with missleies being placed in ally countries such as US in Italy and USSR in Cuba. The Cold War reshaped global politics and ended with the dissolution of the USSR in 1991 and the opening of the Berlin wall in 1989.
