Unit D Flashcards
(16 cards)
What are the 4 types of reactions in Unit D Topic 1 pg.1?
Stoichiometric, Quantitative, Spontaneous, Fast
or Sam Questions Frodo’s Sponges
If the substance is a solid you measure using?
mass
if the substance is a liquid you measure using?
concentration
if the substance is a gas you measure using?
volume
What are the three steps in the Mole to Mole Process?
1.Balance the reaction
2.Determine the given and the unknown
3.Use the coefficients for the mole ratio of the 2 substances
When to perform a quantity to moles calculation?
when one mass, volume, or concentration is given and you asked to find the moles of another
When to perform a quantity to quantity calculation?
given the quantity of a substance and asked to calculate another quantity
What is the Haber Process?
The reaction of nitrogen and hydrogen to produce ammonia.
If a VOLUME is mentioned, and the problem involves molarity DO NOT
assume that 22.4L should be used. STP is only used when it says STP in the question and the substance is a GAS!
Titration
process in which a measured amount of a solution is reacted with a known volume of another solution until a desired equivalence point is reached
Buffering
the acid is neutralizing the base
As soon as the buffer is used up, the pH
Shoots up
uffering Zones PRECEDE an equivalence point on the graph
There is one equivalence point for every
H+ transfer
Weak acids have greater buffering capacity so the hold their
H+ longer.
Indicators are chosen so their transition point is
within the equivalence point.
Equivalence point
the point at which the reactants have been mixed in chemically equivalent amounts
think of it like a balance scale
