Provide patient with container, bring specimen to lab within an hour, urine must be at room temperature to test
What should you do if urine can’t be tested within two hours
Refrigerate, add preservative
Routine sample
Most common type. Non stérile container. Use for routine screenings
what is a mornint sample
most concentrated urine, collected immediately in morning. used for pregnancy tests, urine cultures, and microscopic analysis
timed specimen
quantative analysis. analyzes creatine, protein, glucose. specimens obtained at specific intervals, usually 2 hr or 24 hr
2 hour pistprandial
collected 2 hours after meal. used to screen for glucose that may be spilled in urine once kidneys reach renal theeshold.
catheterized specimens
used to collect a sterile urine specimen. performed by nurse or medical assistant. sterile
clean catch specimen
alternative to catheterization, used to detect UTI/dysfunction
pediatric specimen
collected in urine specimen bag
suprapubic specimen
a puncture using sterile needle. performed by a physician, used for cytology.
