Filtration of blood, creation of urine > draining into ureter
Vertebrae T12-L3/ retroperitoneal/ paravertebral gutter
Kidney blood supply
Renal artery
-Paired branches off aorta
-Segmental branches for kidney
Segments are surgically resectable
Ureters
-Urine transport (kidneys urinary bladder)
-Paired muscular tubes/ retroperitoneal
-Smooth muscle tubes peristaltic contractions to transport urine
-Lumen wall has folds in relaxed state, capable of expansion during peristaltic contraction
Internal surface of urinary bladder
-Ureters enter the urinary bladder superiorly on the posterior surface
-Urine will exit inferiorly via the internal urethra orifice into the urethra
Trigone- smooth triangular section (ureter entry points and internal urethral orifice)
Rugae- ridges/ folds of muscular lining
