Upper limb Flashcards
(15 cards)
Rotator cuff muscles
-Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor, Subscapularis
-Blend with the joint capsule compress humeral head into glenoid fossa
Major Movements
* Abduction (supraspinatus)
* External rotation (infraspinatus and teres minor)
* Internal rotation (subscapularis)
Deltoid
broad fan from humerus to the scapula and clavicle
produces shoulder flexion, abduction and extension
Teres Major
attaches more anteriorly to humerus
–> internal rotation of the shoulder
Anterior arm
bicep brachii, corabrachialis, brachialis
all cross over the anterior aspect of at least one joint and produce flexion
RADIAL TUBEROSITY FROM BICEP BRACHII PRODUCES SUPINATION
Arm posterior
triceps brachii
cross over posterior aspect of at least one joint to produce extension
Forearm anterior compartment
- Attaches to carpals/ metacarpals = wrist flexor
- Attaches to digits = finger flexor
- Distal attachment into radius = pronator
Forearm posterior compartment
- Attaches to carpals/ metacarpals = wrist extensor
- Attaches to digits = finger extensor
Musculocutaneous nerve
Continuation of the lateral cord
-Pierces coracobrachialis to enter the anterior compartment of the arm
-Supplies the anterior compartment of the arm
Median Nerve
-No branching in the arm
-Major supply for the anterior compartment of the forearm
-Minor supply of the hand musculature
Ulnar nerve
Minor supply for the anterior compartment of the forearm
Major supply for the hand musculature
Axillary nerve
wraps around the humerus posteriorly to supply the deltoid and teres minor
Radial Nerve
significant supply to the posterior upper limb
Major upper limb arteries
-Brachial artery is occluded during blood pressure readings
-Ulnar artery is the larger branch and principal supply for the forearm and hand
-Radial artery anastomoses with ulnar artery via palmar arches
