SMATL?
Setup Questions, Maintain Aircraft Control, Analyze the Situation, Take the Proper Action, Land as soon as Conditions Permit
Setup questions (PFWANTS or MDC Techniques)
- Current Position in Detail (Attitude, Altitude, Heading, Airspeed, Power Setting, Distance Remaining on Runway, Height Above Ground)
- Fuel State
- Weather State (winds, ceiling, vis, alternate, holes in clouds?)
- Dual/Solo?
- Profile
- Other Aircraft Around
- In Formation?
Before Taking Aircraft Control STATE:
“I Have the Aircraft. I will maintain aircraft control, analyze the situation, take the proper action, and land as soon as conditions Permit”
Maintain Aircraft Control
Actions:
Ground: Bring the aircraft to a stop and notify.
Formation: Call a knock it off, or take/offer lead, bring stable pitch/power.
Takeoff: (In compliance with Takeoff Brief)
Otherwise, in flight:
Describe the actions you will take, by reference to what instruments or visual references, and expected aircraft performance and response.
TCCC for any engine related issue
Gandload, descend, ram/dump for any smoke
Analyze the Situation
- Look at MW, MC, Fire Lights, are any illuminated?
- For FIRE, analyze with Fever, otherwise,
“I look at the CWS Panel, I expect to see an anti-ice indication and a corresponding (red/amber) annunciator, what do I see? - Anything Engine Related requires TCCC BIP, or Boldface as applicable
- Otherwise continue analysis with:
