Uses of phenytoin
Tx.of
- GTCS
- Partial seizure
-Trigeminal and other neuralgia
- status epilepticus - i.v. in normal saline( fosphenytoin more prefered - less irritant effect on veins)
Use of carbamazepine
DOC in GTCS
and partial( SPS ,CPS) seizure
DOC in trigeminal neuralgia
Tx acute mania and bipolar diaorder
Uses of phenobarbitone
in GTCS
PS
P/O of febrile convulsions
If phenytoin and diazepam can’t control status epilepticus - i.v. phenobarbitone
Uses of succinimide
In absence seizure
Use of BZDs
Emergency tx of
status epilepticus
Tetanus
Eclamptic convulsion
Febrile convulsions
Drugs induced convulsion
Not use in epilepsy due to development of tolerance to anticonvulsion effect
Clonazepam use in absence and myoclonic seizure
Lorazepam over diazepam
Long duration
Less damaging on injected vein
