veins and arteries in the lateral cervical region Flashcards
(15 cards)
where does the external Jugular vein (EJV) come from?
it comes off the subclavian vein
what does the brachiocephalic vein branch off into ?
first turns into the subclavian vein then the internal jugular vein branches off
then the external jugular vein branches off.
describe the path of the EJV?
comes off the subclavian vein, goes up vertical and crosses the sternocleidomastoid muscle obliquey.
it then goes to the angle of the mandible.
what 2 muscles does the spinal accessory nerve innervate?
the sternocleidomastoid and the trapezius.
it has 2 components the spinal part and the cranial part.
where does the cranial part of the spinal accessory nerve come from?
the vagus nerve
where does the phrenic nerve lie in the neck?
on the anterior side of the anterior scalene
what is surface anatomy of the neck from top to bottom?
hyoid lamina of thyroid cartilage cricothyroid ligament cricoid cartilage isthmus
what is a cricothyroidotomy?
midline longitudinal incision over thyroid and cricoid cartilages.
stab incision through cricothyroid membrane/ligament
which arteries supplies the thyroid?
the superior thyroid artery which is a branch of the external carotid artery.
and the inferior thyroid artery which is a branch of the thyrocervical artery which isa branch of the subclavian artery.
what is the venous drainage of the thyroid?
the inferior, middle and superior thyroid veins.
they form the venous plexus..
the superior and middle thyroid veins drain into the internal jugular veins and the inferior thyroid veins drains into the brachiocephalic vein.
what is the thyroid innervated by?
the sympathetic trunk
what is the lymphatic drainage if the thyroid?
initially into the peri thyroid nodes then into the prelarygngeal, pretracheal and paratracheal nodes.
also into the superior and inferior deep cervical node.s
what innervates the larynx?
the recurrent laryngeal nerves
what supplies the parathyroid glands?
the inferior thyroid arteries.
what is the lymphatic drainage of the parathyroid glands?
the superior and inferior deep cervical nodes and the paratracheal node.
