ventricular tachycardia Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
what is ventricular tachycardia
A
broad complex tachycardia originating from a ventricular ectopic focus
has the potential to precipitate ventricular fibrillation- requires urgent treatment
2
Q
main types of VT
A
monomorphic: commonly caused by MI
polymorphic: torsades de pointes (prolonged QT interval)
3
Q
management of VT
A
adverse signs- chest pain, HF, syncope, BP < 90 = immediate cardioversion
otherwise: drug therapy
- amiodarone through central line
- lidocaine
- procainamide
DO NOT USE VERAPAMIL
4
Q
management of stable VT if drug therapy fails
A
electrical cardioversion
electrophysiological study (EPS)
implantable cardioverter-defib
