Viruses and Bacteria Flashcards
(12 cards)
An organism that consists of a single cell that does not have a nucleus
Prokaryote
A thick-walled protective spore that forms inside a bacterial cell and resists harsh conditions.
Endospore
A biological treatment of hazardous waste by living organisms.
Bioremeditation
Medicine used to kill bacteria and other microorganisms.
Antibiotic
Bacteria that cause disease.
Pathogenic Bacteria
A microscopic particle that gets inside a cell and often destroys the cell.
Virus
an organism from which a parasite takes food or shelter.
Host
A form of asexual reproduction in single celled organisms by which one cell divides into two cells of the same size.
Binary Fission
The process where Nitrogen is extracted from the air into the soil that helps the plants grow that animals eat to get that nitrogen.
Nitrogen Fixation
Rod shaped bacteria. Long surface area allows for better nutrient intake. Dry out easily
Bacilli
Spherical shaped bacteria. Doesn’t dry out easily.
Cocci
Spirilla
