Visual fields Flashcards
(11 cards)
1
Q
visual field
A
all the space that one eye can see at any given instant
2
Q
we have natural blind spot
A
no photoreceptors in optic disc
means natural blind spot
3
Q
Hill of vision
A
- you have ur central vision looking directly ahead
- you have ur peripheral vision on the side
- think of it like a mountain with central at the top and going downward the side vision
- and then if some parts are missing or flat that is the bit that is damaged
4
Q
example of perimeters
A
humphrey field analyzer 3
henson pro
octopus 900
icare COMPASS
topcon tempo
5
Q
what structures determine level of vision
A
retina
optic disc
visual cortex
6
Q
our eyes in daylight
A
- can see beat in detail wheb long straight ahead
- can detect movement better in peripheral vision than central
- colour vision better in central than peripheral vision
- can detect dimmer lights within central vision than peripheral
7
Q
hill of vision changes in eye disease
A
- can become flatter
- the area that makes up the sea of darkness becomes bigger
- dips in the surface as vision becomes patchy
8
Q
changes in visual field can have impact on life
A
- unable to drive
- may have mobility issues
- can’t work in certain places
9
Q
what can affect visual field?
A
changes in eye: droopy eyelids, diseases that affect retina and optic disc
changes in brain and visual pathway: diseases that affect optic nerve, diseases that affect parts of brain
10
Q
kinetic perimetry
A
- stimulus moved from area where it is not seen towards area where it is just seen
- testing with diff size lights to find the edge of the hill of vision
11
Q
static perimetry
A
- uses a stationary stimulus
- change from non seeing (dim) to seeing(bright)
- done with lights in diff locations to find the height of hill of vision in that location
