Vno2 Microscope Flashcards
What is the foot base a limb of the microscope?
Supporting structures - must be carried by the upper part of the limb
What is the stage (mechanical)?
Holds the microscope slide in place and allows the slide to be moved. When the stage is moved left the image moves right
What is the vernier scale?
This is an instrument on the mechanical stage. Reading from these two scales enable you to relocate a specific point without having to search the slide
What is the sub stage condenser?
Two lenses which focus the light source on the slide to be viewed
What is the sub stage iris diaphragm?
A lever controlled aperture to modify the amount of light passing through the condenser
What is the lamp iris diaphragm?
Reduces glare, improves contrast
What is the reheostat?
Modifies intensity of light source (dimmer switch) the rheostat must tube turned off before the microscope is turned on as the bulb may blow when it is switched straight on to full illumination
What is the coarse focus?
Racks the stage up and down to focus the slide. In older models the coarse focus moves the body of the microscope up and down
What is the fine focus?
When the slide is in focus can be adjusted to suit the individual
What is the nose piece?
Above the nose piece rotates and holds 3-4 objective lenses. It enables selection of required onjectives
What are the objective lenses?
Different lenses are selected for different magnification
What is the magnification of the objective lenses?
X4 - low power
X10 - low power - whit blood cell count
X40 - high power - red blood cell count
X100 - or x 100 high power oil immersion - differential white blood cell counts
what is the eyepiece?
Light is deflected by prisms through lenses mounted in eye pieces
What is binocular microscopes?
Have two eye pieces
What is monocular microscopes?
One eye piece
