Coercive power
One or more members possess power by virtue of rank, culture, delegation, or appointment; i.e. instructor, charge nurse, someone appointing you
Legitimate power
Exists when one or more members want to imitate another member
Referent power
Exist when one or more members have expertise and knowledge that you lack; i.e. seasoned nurses that you go to when you have questions; or patients might see that you have the extra power
Expert power
Power inherent in the authority of a position
Position power
Power because of an association with another person, or organization Or knowing someone who owes you a favor
Relationship or Connection power
Power that comes from having special expertise or skills but can also come from degrees or certifications indicating special training
Knowledge or information power
The power one has in being able to help others with the process or procedure they need to do
Task power
Power that is derived from personal attributes such as strength of character, passion, inspiration, or wisdom and enhanced by strong interpersonal skills such as the ability to communicate
