How does the serous membrane protect against infection?
By compartmentalizing the organs to prevent infections from spreading through direct contact / friction.

The serosa surrounding the heart

A thin, double layered membrane filled with serous fluid that protects the organs

The outer portion of the serosa lining the cavity walls
What is the Visceral Serosa?
The inner portion of the serosa lining the external surface of the organs within the cavity.
What is the peritoneum?
The serosa covering the abdominal cavity walls and the organs that live there.
What is the pleura?
The serosa enclosing the lungs
