Warning System Flashcards
(38 cards)
There are 4 Aural Warning Levels, what are they?
Emergency (Level 3)
Abnormal (Level 2)
Advisory (Level 1)
Informational (Level 0)
How many EICAS inhibition phases are there, and what is their purpose?
There are 5, K1 through K5, which represent different phases of flight. Depending on the nature of the EICAS Message, the alert will be inhibited (Cargo door open while being loaded on the ground)
What is the only aural warning that takes precedence over Windshear, EGPWS, or TCAS?
SPS or Stall Protection System
EGPWS consists of 4 functions, what are they?
- Forward Looking Terrain Awareness Function (FLTAF)
- Terrain Clearance Floor Function (TCF)
- Ground Proximity Warning Function (GPWF)
- Terrain Awareness Display (TAD)
When a traffic alert automatically pops up on the MFD, what range is the MFD automatically set to?
10 NM
What is solid red on TAD (instead of just red dots)?
Warning Terrain (Impact within 30 seconds)
What is the solid yellow on TAD (instead of just yellow dots)?
Caution Terrain (Impact within 60 seconds)
What do high density red, yellow, green, and light density cyan dots represent on the Terrain Awareness Display?
High Intensity Red = Elevation > 2000’ above airplane’s altitude
High Intensity Yellow = 1000’ - 2000’ above airplane’s altitude
High Intensity Green = Terrain that is the middle elevation band when there is no red or yellow terrain areas within range on the display
Light Density Cyan = Zero’ MSL
Windshear conditions will not be detected if either ____ or the _____ is unavailable.
EGPWS or Radar Altimeter
Windshear Detection is activated when?
Between 10’ and 1500’ Radio Altitude in Takeoff, Final Approach, and GAs
Where is the TCAS RA fail displayed?
Only on the PFD
Which displays can be reverted? Which cannot?
MFDs (evens only) can be reverted to EICAS or PFD (DU2 and DU4)
PFDs and EICAS (DU1, DU3, DU5)
Explain the auto function of the EDS Reversionary Panels
If EICAS fails, MFD displays EICAS
If MFD fails, no auto reversion
If PFD fails, respective MFD displays PFD
How many Air Data Systems (ADS) are installed and how are they assigned?
5 ADS Systems
ADS 1 = CA
ADS 2 = FO
ADS 3 = STBY
ADS 4 = IESS
ADS 5 = Flight Controls
What happens if ADS 1 or 2 fails?
ADS 3 becomes the source
If ADS 3 fails, then what?
the respective x-side ADS is used (ADS 1 reverts to ADS 2)
What happens if you press the ADS Button?
The onside ADS reverts to ADS 3
What happens if you press the ADS button 2x?
Respective onside ADS reverts to the x-side ADS
What happens if you press the ADS button a 3rd time?
Respective onside ADS returns unless it has already failed
Is there an automatic reversion for an IRS failure?
No, it must be manually reverted
What happens if the IRS button is pushed?
the respective IRS reverts to the x-side IRS source
How would the pilot know if the ADS or IRS button has been pushed?
An ADS or IRS Flag would be displayed on the associated PFD
What is the primary flight instrument if both IRS’s fail?
IESS (Integrated Electronic Standby System)
How many IRS units are there?
2
