water and its function Flashcards
What is the charge of water
The oxygen has a slight positive charge on the oxygen and slight negative on the hydrogen end water is dipoles
What does water attract to one another
The difrenr poles attract so they water molecules have attractive forces between them called hydrogen bonds
Why does water have a high shc
So the water temp dosnt fluctuate much
Why does water have a high latent heat of vaporisation
So water dose not evaporate easily and is more effective for cooling the body down
What does water have surface tention and cohesion
This so because water molecules tend to stick to one another this allows water to be piled up the xylem vessel in plants
How is water important to living organisms
Mammals are typically 65% water
Water is in metabolism
Water is a solvent
What is inorganic ions
They have a range of functions as in haemoglobin where they a part in transporting oxygen for example nitrate and phosphate.
