Week 1 Flashcards
(18 cards)
What does HCI stand for?
Human-Computer Interaction
What is HCI concerned with?
The design, evaluation, and implementation of interactive computing systems for human use.
What is the goal of HCI?
To improve the interaction between people and computers by making systems more usable and receptive to user needs.
What is the long-term goal of HCI?
To minimize the barrier between a human’s cognitive model and a computer’s understanding of the user’s task.
Why is HCI important?
Poor interfaces waste time, cause frustration, and lead to errors; good design enhances user satisfaction and performance.
Is HCI a solved problem?
No. Emerging technologies like NUI and the Metaverse present new HCI challenges.
What is Usability?
It measures how effectively, efficiently, and satisfactorily users can achieve goals with a system.
What are key metrics of Usability?
Learnability, efficiency, memorability, error rate, satisfaction
What is User Experience (UX)?
UX is the user’s entire experience with a product, including emotional and psychological responses.
How is User Experience measured?
Through qualitative metrics like satisfaction, frustration, enjoyment, and trust.
What is User Experience Design (UXD)?
An iterative process focused on designing products with users’ needs and behaviours in mind, involving users throughout.
What are the stages of the UI design lifecycle?
Requirements capture, design alternatives, prototyping, and evaluation.
What is a Command Line Interface (CLI)?
A text-based interface where users input typed commands.
What is Graphical User Interface (GUI)?
A point-and-click interface using graphical elements like windows and icons.
What is a Natural User Interface (NUI)?
An interface allowing interaction through natural human behaviours like touch, voice, or gesture.
Name some technologies used in NUIs.
Touch screens, speech recognition, gesture tracking, gaze tracking, brain-machine interfaces.
What is the Metaverse?
A highly immersive virtual world for socializing, playing, and working.
What technologies enable the Metaverse?
Virtual Reality (VR) for immersion and Augmented Reality (AR) for enhancing the real world.
