Week 1 - Principle of EPB Flashcards
(12 cards)
What is evidence in EPB
Information from systematic research used to guide healthcare decisions
Comes from studies on treatment, disesease causes or experience.
What is the first key principle of EBP
decisions about practice shoudl be supported by
- best research evidence
- professional and clinical expertise
- information from the practice context
- client’s values and circumstances
What is the second key principle of EBP
EBP requires ongoing professional development
What is the five-step approach (five A’s) to implementing EBP
- Ask an answerable practice-related question
- Aquire relevent evidence to answer the practice-related question
- Appraise the aquired evidence
- Apply the appraised evidence to practice
- Assess your own performance
What is quantitative research?
Quantitative research tests theories or hypotheses by analysing relationships
uses numerical data when analysing
larger sample size
What is qualitative research
Qualitative research studies form a hypothesis
catagorises, interprets and summarises rather than deductive logic for data collection and analysis
expressed in words
smaller sample size
What are types of secondary research studies
Systematic review =
- follow strict guidelines
- aim to reduce bias and create reliability
Narritive reviews =
- less structures
- can be stand alone or part of a research introduction
- prone to author bias
- less reliable than systematic reviews
What are clinical guidelines
they guide health professionals in how to deal with specified clinical conditions
they provide health professionals with an efficient and effective way to digest large amounts of research in specific areas.
What ensures the quality of research for quantitative research
validity and reliability
what are the different types of validity and reliability
Internal validity: Refers to how confidently we can draw conclusions about cause and effect within the study.
Measurement validity: Ensures the tool measures what it is intended to.
Measurement reliability: Ensures the tool produces consistent results each time.
What ensures the quality of research for qualitative research
rigour and trustworthiness
What is the type of rigour
Qualitative Research
Methodological rigour: Refers to the trustworthiness and credibility of the study’s findings.
Involves transparency and systematic processes to ensure believable results.
