Week 5 - Rigour in Qualitative research Flashcards
(7 cards)
In qualitative research how are results evaluated to be accurate
through rigour and trustworthiness
what is the criteria for evaluaing rigour and trustworthiness
through credibility and transferibility
what is credibility
Credibility refers to whether the findings of a study are truthful, believable, and accurately reflect participants’ experiences.
It involves assessing if the researcher’s interpretations align with what participants actually said.
what are the 2 aspects of credibility
member checking = sends transcripts back to participants for confirmation and accuracy.
Triangulation = It involves using at least three different data sources or methods to confirm findings (e.g., interviews, observations, and psychometric tests).
what is transferibility
Transferability refers to how well the findings of a qualitative study can be applied to other individuals, groups, settings, or contexts.
What is dependability
Dependability refers to the quality and consistency of the research process, including data collection, analysis, and theory development.
what is confimability
Confirmability assesses how well the findings are grounded in the actual data, not the researcher’s biases or assumptions.
This process helps determine the influence of the researcher on the findings and whether the data genuinely support the conclusions.
