Week 11 - Cancer Flashcards
(7 cards)
Cyclophsphamide
Class: Alkylating Agent
Indication: Cancer
MOA: Form covalent bonds with DNA = stops replication
Adverse Effects: hair loss, sterility, haematology, myelosuppression (WBC)
Doxorubicin
Class: Anthracyclines
Indication: Cancer
MOA: Insert betweek DNA bases = inhibits DNA, generate free radials = damage DNA
Adverse Effects: hair loss, sterility, haematology, myelosuppression (WBC)
Methotrexate
Class: Antimetabolite
Indication: Cancer
MOA: S-Phase Specific, inhibits DHFR = decrease in purines (bases) = decrease in DNA production
Adverse Effects: hair loss, sterility, haematology, myelosuppression (WBC)
Paclitaxel
Class: Taxane
Indication: Cancer
MOA: M-phase Specific, binds to microtubules and prevents the dissasembely, prevets chromosomes from pulling apart = no mitosis
Adverse Effects: hair loss, sterility, haematology, myelosuppression (WBC)
Tamoxifen
Class: SERMs
Indication: Cancer (Breast)
MOA: Binds to estrogen receptors = stops estrogen from working = decreases cancer growth
Adverse Effects: hot flashes, vaginal discharge, and changes in menstruation, blood clots, uterine cancer
Trastuzumab
Class: Monoclonal Antibody
Indication: Cancer
MOA: Bind to HER2 Receptors = stops dimerization = no activation = decreases proliferation of cancer
Adverse Effects:
Lapatinib
Class: Kinase Inhibitor
Indication: Cancer
MOA: targets intracellular domain of HER 2 = stops activation = decreases proliferation
Adverse Effects:
