Week 3 Flashcards
(17 cards)
what are 3 things needed for bone fracture healing?
alignment, immobilization, time
what is ossification?
osteoblasts turn the callus into hard bone
what is callus formation?
osteoblasts, fibroblasts and chondrocytes build a fibrocartilaginous callus to hold the broken ends together
what is flexion?
decreasing the angle between bones
what is extension?
increasing the angle between bones
what is adduction?
putting limbs closer together (add them together)
what is abducting?
pulling limbs further apart from echo other
what is circumduction?
distal end of limb moving in circle (helicopter tail) (wrist moving in circle)
what is rotation?
turning limbs medial and lateral
major cells in nervous system?
neurons
parts of neurons
cell body (nucleus)
dendrites (top tree part)
axons (stem)
synaptic bulbs (roots)
synaps (space between neurons
Examples for stimuli for nervous system
Light
Vibration (sound)
heat/cold
Pressure pain
Hunger
Visceral pain (internal)
Referred pain
Taste
Smell
pheromones
Dendrites of initial stimulus- receiving neuron is called?
a receptor (specifized)
List the 5 layers of the epidermis, from DEEP to SUPERFICIAL.
stratum basale
stratum spinosum
stratum granulosum
stratum lucidum
stratum corneum
Which layer of the epidermis is the made of 20-30 rows of dead keratinocytes piled on top of each other?
stratum corneum
What is the purpose of dendrites in a neuron?
To receive stimuli
what are the three things necessary for optimal healing of a broken bone?
Alignment, immobilization, and time
