What are the different types of awarenesses?
Awareness: Refers to knowing who is around, what is happening, and who is interacting with whom (Dourish and Bly, 1992).
Peripheral Awareness: The ability to maintain and update a sense of the surrounding context by observing and listening to what’s happening at the periphery of one’s vision, even while engaged in another activity.
Situational Awareness: Being aware of what is happening around you to understand how information, events, and your actions affect ongoing and future events. This is crucial in technology-rich environments like air traffic control or operating theatres.
Coordination in Work: People who work closely together develop strategies based on up-to-date awareness of each other’s activities, especially in interdependent tasks.
Example: In putting on a show, performers monitor each other to coordinate their performance effectively.
