Week 4 necrosis Flashcards
(6 cards)
Coagulative necrosis
Seen in ischemia/infarction. Cell outlines seen but nuclei gone. Increased eosinophilia leads to pink/red color
Liquefactive necrosis
Seen in bacterial abscesses and CNS ischemia. Neutrophils release lysosomal enzymes that digest tissue. Can see neutrophils and cell debris
Caseous necrosis
Cheese like gross appearance. Debris surrounded by lymphocytes and macrophages (granulomas). Seen in TB, systemic fungi and Nocardia
Fat necrosis
Seen in pancreatitis and breast tissue injury. Saponification of fat and calcium
Fibrinoid necrosis
Vessel walls have eosinophilic layer of proteinaceous material. Seen in vasculitis
Gangrenous necrosis
Seen in distal extremities and GI tract. Dry: ischemia, coagulative. Wet: superinfection, liquefactive on top of coagulative
