What is Positive Youth Development (PYD)
A positive view of youth development that rejects the traditional deficit or ‘storm and stress’ view of adolescence
A positive developmental trajectory occurs when systems or settings
(contexts) support young people to achieve these goals
What are risk factors
Prolonged exposure to adversity i.e. poverty; harsh treatment or neglect; poorly treated medical condition/disability
When does resilience arise?
occurs in the context of risk exposure or threat
How do PYD and resilience link?
Each acknowledge that a number of individual-context interactions occur to shape positive or risky developmental trajectories
What is self-regulation?
Selection, optimization, and compensation
basically setting goals, and completing them
What is self esteem?
A subjective global evaluation of our worth as a person

Multidimensional with descriptions and
evaluations of the self within multiple
domains; Math, English or Essay Writing self-concept. also Influenced by social-comparisons
what is self efficacy
Self-efficacy is an agentic belief in one’s ability or capability to perform a task successfully to achieve an outcome.
Self efficacy is the most domain specific form of selfjudgement reflecting a ‘can-do’ judgement of the self in discreet tasks.
what is social and emotional learning
f acquiring core competencies to recognize and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, appreciate the perspectives of others, establish and maintain positive relationships, make responsible decisions, and handle interpersonal situations
constructively.
what are social skills
Social skills are the specific behaviours that an individual uses to perform competently
what is social compotencey
It is the ability to respond flexibly and
appropriately defines a persons ability to
‘handle’the social challenges presented to
us all
What is emotional competence
Awareness of our emotional state, Capacity for empathy and sympathy
