Politics vs. Policy
Politics is groups of people with different ideas for best decisions.
Policy outlines a plan that directs what we can and cannot do
What influences public policy?
- social norms & attitudes of the community
- political party belief and values
- media and social media
- activist groups
- interest groups
- media
- public opinion
What is post structuralism?
Any social element exists only in patterned, structured relations linking them to other elements in a system.
To understand the social world, we examine these systems.
Lewin’s & Lippitt’s change theory
Unfreezing
* Phase 1 = diagnose the problem
* Phase 2 = assess motivation & capacity for change
Changing
* Phase 3 = diagnosing the clients systems problem
* Phase 4 = establishing alternative routes
* Phase 5 = transforming intentions into actual efforts
Refreezing
* Phase 6 = stabilizing the change
* Phase 7 = terminating relationships
Health vs. healthy policy
Health - directly addresses health
Healthy - make changes to living conditions that impact health
