What is emotional engagment
- affective relationships
- sense of belonging
- attachment to others

- Because there are no ‘benchmarks’ to help children assess their own abilities, children assess their abilities using ‘social comparison’ compare themselves to others to evaluate their abilitiets
what is bullying
Bullying refers to any intentional and repeated behaviour which causes physical, emotional, or social harm to a person
What did LSAC find about bullying?
7 in 10 children aged 12-13 yrs had experienced at least one instance of bullying in the last year
Of these children, almost half (46%) also reported using bullying-like behaviours on another child.
Victims of bullying are more likely to:
- have poor academic performance
- struggle in transitionary points of life
- have mental health issues
- beat risk for suicide
Children who bully other children are:
- more likely to engage in criminal activity
- have poor educational outcomes
- have depression later in life

phenomenon where initial advantages lead to more advantages over time.
What is self -efficacy
a belief that you can master a situation and produce a positive outcome
Self-efficacy is a critical factor in achievement
How does self-efficacy affect a child academic outcome
child with low self-efficacy may preform poorly as they may not even try studying as they think they cannot do it
A child with good self-efficacy will work harder, persist longer and have better academic outcomes
What is the Multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS)
Under a public health approach, mental health promotion should be delivered according to MTSS approach. Levels:
universal - all students
selective - interventions targetting specific people at risk of difficulties
Indicated - deliverd to people experiencing difficulties
