Wetlands Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is an ecosystem?
A large community of living organisms (plants, animals, and microbes.
What is a wetland?
Land or areas such as marshes and swamps that are often covered with shallow water or have soil saturated with moisture.
What is a habitat?
An area that particular species of plants and animals live.
Can any animal live in any habitat?
Most animals live in one habitat. This is best suited for their survival.
can humans live in any habitat?
no.
what are the similarities and differences between marshes and swamps?
Similarities:
often cover land with water.
Differences:
swamps have trees. marshes don’t.
what types of wetlands are there?
swamps, marshes, ponds, bogs, and fens.
what are some living things?
trees, humans, flowers, squirrels, etc.
what are some nonliving things?
sun, air, water, pepperoni, etc.
what is the difference between living and nonliving things? Give 2 examples for each.
a living thing can breathe, grow, reproduce, move and eat, while a nonliving thing can’t.
How do living things interact with nonliving things in wetland ecosystems?
living things need nonliving things to survive. Plants and animals need sunlight, air, soil, and water to live and these things are nonliving. In a wetland, the living things use the water to breathe, drink, and make food with for photosynthesis. All plants and animals in a wetland need the sun for it’s light and heat.
