How could Edward cause instability?

A

-fear that England would return to a period of civil war because Edward wouldn’t be able to control factional struggles like the ones during Henry’s last years
-Somerset was the Kings uncle so he gained a lot of power and could easily advise the King
-Privy Council could become factionated due to different religious beliefs->also Edward could be easily manipulated due to them being professionals

A

-he couldn’t lead troops into war ->could lead to other countries exploiting him due to his weakness by being so young
-concerns about the image of Edward->couldn’t be seen as powerful and strong because he was only nine

A

-a month before he died Henry amended his Will (1546)
-3rd Act of Succession was passed in 1543->stated that Edward was next in line, then Mary, then Elizabeth but his daughters husbands had to be approved by the Privy Council
-the Privy Council was changed to 16 people (8 Catholics and 8 Reformists) so there would be equal representation and the factions wouldn’t be able to influence Edward
-Gardiner and Howard (2/8 Catholics in the Privy Council) were written out/removed and sent to the tower
-Edward Seymour gained a lot of power and became the Lord Protector->he gained more power than Henry wanted him to due to bribery
