1 - repetitive sibilance enforces the entrapment of the speaker by their memories, that will never cease to folow them - he is haunted by the reoccuring thoughts of his memories
2 - sibilance also presents an underlying tone of bitterness - hissing sound tied with it
3 - forceful verb “sever” presents that something was forcefully broken against his will, perhaps their wedding vows?

“dew of the morning, felt like the warning of what I feel now”
1 - pathetic fallecy to recollect on the sad recollection of their past relationship - grey scenery.
2 - the dew that appears in the early hours of the morning acts as a “calm” before the storm - which perhaps foreshadows a later downpour, one of which is filled with emotions, which we can see as the poem unfolds
3 - the alternation of temporal periods melds both the present and past, highlighting how strong the feelings he had when breaking up with his lover were that they have been able to be carried into the present day.
“shudder that comes o’er me”
1 - often used for ghosts - feels a haunting figure has come over him - he cannot escape this memory of her and is now haunted by the idea of her - she is constantly following him - ghost of his past love
2 - he feels a “shudder” each time he thinks about their love - the scar left by their love is so strong that it physically conflicts him in the present
