Religion is unattractive to the young
Mainstream religious organisations are very unattractive to the young as they are boring, repetitive, and old fashioned. This is out of style with the younger people. Religion has very controversial views on gay marriage and abortion which may seem bizzare with the values of young people
Evaluation of religion is unattractive to the young
This cannot be generalised globally as the Pentecostal church attracts many young members for example Nick jonas wore a purity ring.
The expanding spiritual market
Young people may be turning away from conventional ideas of religion as there is now an expended spiritual marketplace. There is growing exposure to a wide variety of religious and spiritual ideas. This means young people can now choose to find expression outside of traditional religion
Evaluation of the expanding spiritual marketplace
Spirituality is seen as weak religion as it doesn’t require much commitment and young people often dip in and out of it
Declining religious education
The Church of England is unable to recruit young people by socialising them into religious thinking through religious education. Sunday schools are declining rapidly.
Evaluation of declining religious organisations
Faith schools are still quite common in the uk and is a place for religious socialisation
Cultural amnesia
Christianity is undergoing a cultural amnesia as new have slowly lost religion as it is handed down each generation. Few parents now teach their kids about religion and let their children belive what they want. Hense why a lot of young people now belive in spirituality

Despite the huge decline in organised religion, many people including the young become spiritual shoppers looking to find new religions that meet their lifestyles or personal interests
