Ovulation: release of egg from ovary

Luteal: left over follicle-corpus luteum- is broken down into hormones

A measurable substance from human body that indicates underlying disease, infection, hormonal levels (cervical mucus)
Discharge
Any substance coming from/thru the cervix (blood, tissue, mucus)

Central organ of the reproductive system; functions as the womb during pregnancy

Exit from the womb
Vagina
Outermost entrance into the cervical canal
Ovary
Stores eggs in follicles; releases eggs from mature follicles during ovulation
Fimbriae
Fibers that catch the released egg and transport it into the fallopian tubes
Fallopian tubes
Carry the egg to the uterus; typically where fertilization happens
Endometrium
Innermost lining of the uterus; thickens to be receptive to a fertilized egg
Myometrium
The main muscle of the uterus, causing contractions during labor
Follicle stimulating hormone
Stimulates growth anx development of follicles; produced by pituitary gland; gonadotropin
Luteinizing hormone
Helps to stimulate follicular growth; triggers ovulation; stimulate production of progesterone from the corpus luteum; produced by pituitary gland; gonadotropin
Estrogen
Causes the development of female physical characteristics; prepares uterine lining for pregnancy; maintains vaginal lubrication and elasticity
Progesterone
Supports pregnancy, bone and breast development, milk production; mood regulation
Endocrine system
Organs and glands throughout the body which produce and secrete hormones
Gonadotropins
Hormones produced by the pituitary gland that affect the gonads (sex organs)
