What is the significance of work acccoriding to Marx
According to Marx, work is centre to the purposeful nature of being a human and separates humans from animals. If workers are alienated from the value they create they become alienated because their only motivation to work becomes money.

Workers are often let down by poor leadership and are subject to authoritarian and dominant leadership that imposes from above causing alienation.

Outline the impact of worklessness on the elderly
Cumming and Henry developed the disengagement theory (1961) that claims disengagement from previous social roles leads the elderly to feel isolated and and detached from society. Furthermore, hockey and James (1993) claim that retired people are not treated like adults and without jobs they have the status of children.

All ethnic groups suffer from unemployment more so than whites. For example, in 2013 unemployment rates in the uk stood at 8% but at 14% for ethnic minority’s.
