Why does the lack of magnesium turn leaves into yellow?
Magnesium is needed to make chlorophyll which is green colour in plants. If a plant lacks magnesium, it cannot make chlorophyl. This affects the colour of the leaves
Suggest what will happen if plants lack magnesium.
Chlorophyll captures light energy needed for photosynthesis. If a plant lacks magnesium it cannot make chlorophyll it needs. So it cannot capture as much light energy. Lesser chlorophyll means lesser photosynthesis takes place, so less glucose is made.
State how legumes get nitrates.
Legumes do not need to take in nitrates from the soil. They have root nodules full of bacteria which make nitrates from the nitrogen in the air.
State the difference between manure and compost.
Manure refers to waste products of animals. Compost contains decayed organic materials
Describe transpiration.
Water evaporates out into the air through stomata on the leaves. Water moves up through xylem. Water is taken in through root hair cells and moves into the roots.
Does xylem need energy?
No
Does phloem need energy?
Yes
How many directions does xylem flow in?
One direction
How many directions does phloem flow in?
Two directions
