Von schlieffen plan (who, when created, why, what)

A

German military plan to avoid fighting on 2 fronts (Russia and france) created 9 years before war so outdated, invaded France through franco-german borders and Belgium

Why did the schlieffen plan fail?

A

lots of resistance from Belgium, Russia mobilised way faster than expected, unflexible bc of railways,bad communication, bavarian troops didn’t allign to orders
Pressure from East (Russia had good war tactics, transport and experience - just fought russia-japanese war )
Bad replacement army

Propaganda, back by xmas (short war), pals battalion and peer pressure, naive, well payed, glory, patriotism, nationalism, duty, protect empire and vulnerable,embarrassing if you don’t, naive
