What was the League of Nations?
An international organization formed after WW1 to promote peace; was weak and failed to stop WW2.
What was the Treaty of Versailles?
A peace treaty that ended WW1 and punished Germany; led to anger and helped cause WW2.
What was the Weimar Republic?
Germany’s democratic government after WW1; struggled with economic problems and was replaced by Hitler.
What is fascism?
A political system led by a dictator; wanted strong nationalism and control over people’s lives.
What is Japanese Expansionism?
Japan growing its empire by taking over land in Asia before and during WW2.
What were the Nuremberg Trials?
Court trials after WW2 where Nazi leaders were punished for their war crimes and the Holocaust.
What was D-day?
The day Allied forces invaded France to fight Nazi Germany.
What was the Non-aggression Pact?
A deal between Germany and the Soviet Union not to fight each other; Hitler broke this deal.
What is appeasement?
Giving in to a country’s demands to avoid war.
What is Blitzkrieg?
A fast surprise attack style used by Germany.
What was the Manhattan Project?
A secret United States project to build the first atomic bombs during WW2.
What is an atomic bomb?
A bomb that uses nuclear energy.
What happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
Two Japanese cities where the United States dropped atomic bombs; led to Japan’s surrender.
What is genocide?
Planned killing of a large group of people; mainly a race/religion.
What was the Holocaust?
The genocide that killed 6 million Jews and millions of others; performed by Nazis.
What was the Yalta Conference?
A 1945 meeting between Allied leaders to plan for post-war Europe and how to end the war.
