What is militarism?
Opinions or actions of people who believe that a country should maintain a strong military capability and be prepared to use it aggressively to defend or promote national interests.
Define alliances in the context of WWI.
An agreement between 2 or more countries with the purpose of supporting each other during war.
What is nationalism?
An intense feeling of pride in one’s nation.
What does imperialism refer to?
Policy that establishes and enforces the power and influence of a country with outside people or countries through diplomacy or military force.
Who was Franz Ferdinand and why is his assassination significant?
He was the next leader of Austria-Hungary and his death started the beginning of WWI.

What does neutrality mean?
The state of not supporting or helping either side in a conflict or disagreement.
What was the Lusitania?
A British luxury cruise ship that sank because of a German torpedo on May 1st, resulting in 1,198 deaths.
What was the Zimmerman Telegram?
A secret message sent from Germany proposing that Mexico ally with Germany against the United States.

What was the League of Nations?
An organization formed to establish world peace, fair labor conditions, improve global health, control global arms trade, and protect minorities in Europe.
What was the Treaty of Versailles?
Officially ended WWI, extremely punished Germany, and was signed on June 28, 1919.
What are the Fourteen Points?
A plan for the war created by President Woodrow Wilson outlining a strategy for ending the war.
