Year 9 Flashcards
(23 cards)
What is the heliocentric model?
It is the model where everything revolves around the sun.
What is the geocentric model?
It is where everything revolves around the earth.
What is the Doppler effect
The change in the pitch of a sound coming from a moving source
What is the cosmic microwave background radiation?
It is when huge amounts of energy was released at the beginning of the universe.
What is the Big Bang theory?
The Big Bang theory is the theory that supports the fact that there was a beginning to the universe and how everything started really small then gradually started to expand.
What is the steady state theory?
The steady state theory is how there was no begninning to the universe and how everything was always there and it started to develop through the years. Also that the universe is expanding and new matter is continuously being created.
What is red shift?
It is when light from distance galaxies is shifted towards the red end of the spectrum.
What frequency is infrasound ?
Less than 20 Hz
What animals can hear the infrasound?
Elephants and whales
What frequency can humans hear?
20-20000Hz (hertz)
What are probes?
They orbit around planets taking photos.
What are landers?
They land on the surface of the planet and take pictures and samples of the soil.
What is a rover?
A robot that moves anywhere on an planet.
What are transverse waves?
Transverse waves the vibrations are at 90 degrees to the direction of travel of the wave.
Which waves are transverse?
Light and all EM waves. Ripples on water and seismic waves.
What are longitudinal waves?
Are waves which vibrations are along the same direction as the wave is traveling.
What is a refracting telescope?
A refracting telescope is made up of an objective lens and an eye piece.
What is a frequency?
The frequency is the number of complete waves that comes to a point every second.
What is the amplitude?
He maximum distance the wave can go from the mid line.
The wavelength?
The wavelength is the distance from one point of the wave to the same point on the next wave.
What frequency is ultrasound waves?
It’s higher than 20 000Hz (hertz)
What is a supernova????
An explosion produced when the core of the red giant collapses.
Life cycle of a star?
On paper.
