01 Overview of Muscle Tissues Flashcards
(14 cards)
Skeletal - Voluntary, Striated, Muntinucleate
Smooth - Involuntary, 1:1 uninucleate
Cardiac - Involuntary, Striated
Voluntary - Kaya natin i-control (Nagagalaw)
Involuntary -
● large, cigar-shaped, multinucleate cells that cover our bone and cartilage framework
● skeletal, striated, and voluntary
Skeletal Muscle
dense connective tissue that separates muscles to its adjacent muscle
(Lamad) - cover the entirety of the muscle
Fascia
tough connective tissue that connects muscle to bone, and allows the body to move and be flexible
Tendon
delicate connective tissue which indirectly attaches the muscle to bone, cartilage, or another connective tissue covering, and allows the body to be strong and stable (flat muscle)

Aponeurosis
what are the 3 connective coverings?
Fascia
Tendon
Aponeurosis
Organization of the skeletal muscle
-Epimysium
-Perimysium
- Endomysium
- Fascicle
connective tissue which covers the entire muscle
Epimysium
coarser fibrous membrane that wraps several sheathed muscle fibers (covers the fascicle)
Perimysium
delicate connective tissue sheath that encloses each muscle fiber (covers muscle fibers)
Endomysium
deeper layer
a bundle of muscle fibers (covers the muscle fibers)
fascicle
● visceral, non-striated, and involuntary
● spindle-shaped, uninucleate, and surrounded by scant endomysium
● are arranged in layers, one running circularly and the other longitudinally
Smooth tissue
● cardiac, striated, and involuntary
● cushioned by small amounts of endomysium and are arranged in spiral or figure 8–shaped bundles
● are branching cells joined by special gap junctions called intercalated discs
● usually contracts at a fairly steady rate set by the heart’s “in-house” pacemaker
